Private clinical psychologist, supervisor and EAP counsellor in Whakatane.
Hello, I’m Elsabé van Wyk.
I am a registered clinical psychologist who helps adults and couples navigate life challenges. I specialise in bereavement and loss, couples counselling, anxiety, stress, burnout, depression, and clinical supervision.
Over the years I have gained a deep understanding of the factors that can impact our mental wellbeing. Each person’s experience will be individual, as will the treatment plan needed. My practice offers a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space for you to work through your personal challenge.
I am based in beautiful Whakatāne, where I have lived and practised for the last 24 years. For convenience or if you live further afield, I also provide sessions online.
Background and Training
I completed my clinical training at the University of the Free State in South Africa. Following this, I worked as a lecturer and psychologist at the University for six years.
In 2000, I moved from South Africa to Whakatāne to work for the Bay of Plenty District Health Board, as part of the Whakatāne Community Mental Health team. I worked in this team for 22 years, but now offer private appointments only.
